Swiss Post subsidiary acquires regional direct mail delivery business

Swiss Post subsidiary Direct Mail Company (DMC) will take over the delivery business of AWZ AG thatwill end its delivery operations for commercial reasons. The takeover will come into effect on 1

March 2012.

With its head office in Berne, AWZ AG and its subsidiary ADZ AG provide products and servicesin the field of direct marketing within Switzerland. Due to the economic situation and the negativemarket prospects, the Board of Directors of AWZ AG has decided to terminate its activity in thefield of deliveries, Swiss Post explained.

AWZ AG and its subsidiary ADZ AG operate in the areas of Berne, Aargau/Solothurn, Zug andTicino and employ about 1,500 delivery staff. Its employees will continue to be employed by DirectMail Company after the takeover carrying out the same delivery tours as previously.

AWZ AG stressed that DMC will not take over its existing business in the adressed directmarketing, its lettershop business as well as other activities not related to delivery.

Last month, Swiss Post acquired the remaining 50 per cent stakes in Direct Mail Company AGand Direct Mail Logistik AG respectively to strengthen its position in its core business of directmarketing. Headquartered in Basel, the DMC Group offers products and services in the area of directmarketing and delivery of unaddressed items. It comprises Direct Mail Company AG, Direct MailLogistik AG and IN Media AG.

Even after the takeover, the postal operator continues operating the DMC Group as anindependent company and also the partnership in the SDM association (swissdirectmail).
