Aramex wins Environmental Award

Aramex has won the 2008 Gold International Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice andSustainable Development – Asian region – in the Commerce and Industry category during the gala

ceremony at Great Britain’s House of Commons in London.

The Green Apple Awards campaign is run by the Green Organisation, an independent,non-political, non-profit group that rewards and promotes environmental best practice worldwide.Organisation supporters include the British government’s Environment Agency, the CharteredInstitution of Wastes Management and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

The Green Association has highlighted Aramex’s wide commitment to community development,through its cost-effective environmental and sustainable business practices.

The Green Apple Award judges base awards criteria on the following key merits: environmental,social and economic benefits; innovation; commitment to achieve aims by senior personnel involved;quantitative evidence of impact; future further development plans; and possible adoption by others.

“This global logistics company aims to be the first to operate in a carbon-neutral manner,and their expenditure underlines their intentions. Investment in electric and hybrid vehicles anddramatic reductions in paper and plastic use have helped get their footprint to a more manageablesize”, the Green Apple Award judges said.

Raji Hattar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Aramex, commented on the recognition: “We dobelieve that sustainability and CSR are embedded in our business model and strategy, and reflectour corporate values and culture. Therefore we are actively engaged in seeking partnerships thatwill enable us to find solutions and impact all stakeholders.”

Aramex’s award-winning paper on “Environmental Commitments” – selected from a field of some500 entries submitted by companies, councils, and communities – will be published in The GreenBook, the world’s only work of reference on environmental best practices.
