Swiss Post digital identity Post SuisseID boosts online trade

Swiss Post has provided several ten thousand of digital identities to around 8,000 customerssince launching Post SuisseID in May 2010.

Available on various data carriers, the Post SuisseID now includes a range of new technicalfeatures and can also be extended online.

This official digital Swiss identity comes into play when companies or individuals who dobusiness or communicate with authorities online need to identify themselves in a secure way or signdocuments electronically using a legally valid signature. When developing products for the processchains of authorities and companies, Swiss Post is focusing increasingly on digital businessflows.

While private customers purchased just one digital identity each, business customers haveordered up to several thousand. Around 90% of customers chose to receive the Swiss Post digitalidentity on a USB stick, while fewer ordered the card solution.

The Swiss postal operator continued to develop its digital identity product in line with thecustomers’ needs. Increasing numbers of online public services across Switzerland are usingSuisseID to verify the identity of public authority employees, citizens and other customers. Morethan 450 municipalities, schools and churches already access the administration portals, which areavailable every day, around the clock.

For public authorities and administrations, Swiss Post is currently offering Post SuisseID as“eGov SuisseID” for CHF 59. With the new edition, Swiss Post has reinforced its position as aninnovative provider of e-government and e-business solutions.

SuisseID has a maximum lifespan of three years. Instead of the previous time-consuming extensionprocedure, owners of a valid Post SuisseID can now extend the validity period online by one orthree years from the order date, without the need to provide any documents or having to exchangetheir SuisseID. This service is available at the special price of CHF 19 and is offered exclusivelyby Swiss Post.
