Swiss Post upgrades its secure online mail service

Swiss Post goes online

Swiss Post has upgraded its IncaMail service for secure and verifiable dispatch of e-mails witha new architecture and additional functions. The new version IncaMail 3.0 will be available as of

autumn 2010.

Thanks to the patented direct delivery, the intermediate storage of e-mails at Swiss Post willno longer be necessary. IncaMail 3.0 can be easily combined with Swiss Post’s digital identity,SuisseID. The existing links of the previous version such as the seamless integration of IncaMailin Outlook or in business software solutions such as Abacus will remain.

One definite advantage of IncaMail 3.0 is its enhanced security standard. Via the currentsolution, the recipient is sent a link to Swiss Post’s security server from where he can collectthe e-mail with the aid of a special access code instead of receiving the content of the e-mail.The message text will be encrypted together with the accompanying documents and sent as an integralpart of the e-mail. It can be opened directly with the relevant access code.

This is a particularly attractive feature for medium-sized and large companies now having theoption of running IncaMail themselves and making it accessible to their employees. Swiss Post willbe meeting the most discerning needs of particularly security-sensitive companies such as insurersand banks.

Swiss Post said IncaMail will not be available to new customers until the new version islaunched in autumn this year. However, existing customers can continue to use the current versionand will automatically benefit from the new version as it is released.

“IncaMail 3.0 is based on completely revised technology and serves to simplify many aspects. Forexample, users will be able to convert regular e-mails into secure e-mails with fewer mouse clicksand interim e-mail storage will no longer be necessary thanks to patented direct delivery,” SwissPost said in a statement.

Owners of the Swiss Post Suisse ID are automatically pre-registered for IncaMail. SuisseID hasbeen available since 3 May 2010 from Swiss Post and is based on the SECO SuisseID standard fordigital identity and signature in Switzerland.

IncaMail is already officially approved by the Federal Government for various communicationprocedures. Public authorities are entitled to exchange official and confidential documents viaIncaMail, using encoded e-mail and, on demand, electronic registered mail instead of physicaldispatch.
