DHL Express links Europe to Middle East by road

DHL expands Middle East road service

DHL announced today it has nearly doubled the size of the Middle East trucking fleet and extendedits Middle East express freight road network into Europe. The new service offers a cheaper

alternative to air express transportation between the two regions.

DHL said the investment into the larger fleet would enhance its overall service and capacityacross the Middle East road network to ensure it maintains its leadership position in the region.

The express operator said it has added 50 vehicles to its road fleet bringing the total to111. These comprise 31 DHL own vehicles, 30 dedicated partner vehicles and an additional 50 newdedicated partner vehicles. The fleet will also be supported by over 35 additional trailers.

As part of the service enhancement, DHL said it has also added extra lanes to its regionalnetwork in Turkey, Syria, Yemen and Iran. It did not release details of the Middle East-Europeroutings or frequencies.

Acheaper alternative to air freight, DHL Express Freight offers a two to five day definite transittime service in the Middle East. It offers customers a 24/7 door to door customs clearance serviceon a daily basis, at a competitive all inclusive dollar per kilo price.

The high level of security and handling between hubs up to final delivery ensures allshipments are scanned and x-rayed, with full track and trace capabilities from the point of pick-upto delivery, DHL noted.
