Trans-o-flex Logistik-Service has expanded its network for integrated warehouse solutions inGermany with a new location in Hamburg, especially targeting customers importing goods who require
shorter lead times.This is the company’s first own location in Northern Germany and is situated closely to the portof Hamburg and the largest container terminals. It adds to the existing locations of the contractlogistics provider, both regionally and in terms of product range and tasks. Until now,trans-o-flex Logistik-Service has been operating its own logistics centres in Kerpen and Frechen,near Cologne, as well as in Weinheim, Heidelberg and Roth, near Nuremberg.
The new contract logistics location will, among other things, facilitate the handling of medicalconsumables, technical equipment and services for a specialist company. The monthly volume of thiscontract amounts to some 1,400 pallets of normal and hazardous goods. In addition to this,trans-o-flex Logistik-Service also takes over the complete customs clearance of the incoming seacontainers, transports them to the warehouse, picks and packs the incoming shipment orders (everyworking day until 5:00 p.m.) and hands the goods over to the trans-o-flex express division fornation-wide delivery on the following day.
“The new location is ideal for companies that import goods via the port of Hamburg and that areopen for optimising their supply chain,” Edwin ten Voorde, Managing Director of trans-o-flexLogistik-Service GmbH, said. “Due to the location and our expertise, the new warehouse is a goodsite for various logistic solutions, such as merge-in-transit, cross-docking or spot operationsthat require short lead times from the arrival at the port to the delivery to the recipient”.
The complete warehouse area amounts to a total of 5,000 sqm. The narrow-aisle, high-rackwarehouse has space for some 5,000 pallets with a variable height of up to 2.30 m. 1,200 sqm arereserved for block storage or cross-docking activities and another 1,000 sqm for fulfilment tasks,such as picking and packing or refinement.
Trans-o-flex Group generated sales worth around €505 million in 2011 and employs about 1,400staff. It has been a subsidiary of Austrian Post since June 2008.
