Spanish parcel service SEUR is adding 82 environmentally friendly Volkswagen Caddy Transporters to the fleet of its SEUR Now express service, which delivers shipments within one to two hours in the cities of Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

About 5.5% of SEUR’s overall vehicles are now ‘ecological’, the company said.

In total, the new SEUR Now vehicles, powered by natural gas, are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 27% compared to a diesel vehicle of the same characteristics. This means an estimated saving of 373 kg of CO2 per vehicle per month.

Moreover, SEUR is interested in vehicles powered by natural gas to reduce the emission of pollutants that affect human health to almost zero. According to the company, natural gas reduces nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) by 85%, and eliminates 96% of PM solid particle emissions, in addition to halving noise pollution.

Just recently, SEUR, together with DPDgroup, launched an air quality monitoring programme in Madrid, contributing to reducing CO2 emissions. Selected SEUR vehicles and facilities are equipped with Pollutrack laser-based mobile sensors. These sensors collect real data every 12 seconds on most deleterious fine particles PM2.5, used to visualize on high resolution maps urban air quality levels.

The Pollutrack technology enables the company to identify the most exposed areas to PM2.5 and better know what impacts fine particles have on people’s health.

Marc Bayo, director of SEUR Now, pointed out: “Our goal is to meet increasingly shorter delivery times and do so with sustainable resources that comply with urban legislation that safeguards the environment.”

SEUR, in its commitment to CSR and intelligent urban distribution, has focused on different projects such as the Pickup points network, which includes more than 2,300 points, including convenience stores and lockers; its ecological fleet that already represents 5.5% of the company's total vehicles, and urban hubs, small logistics centres located in the centre of cities that allow to be closer to customers and minimize emissions using more sustainable means of distribution.
