Japanese technology and manufacturing giant Panasonic has launched a new Smartlocker solution for the drop-off, collection and return of goods from e-commerce purchases to meet the rising demand in Europe for contactless delivery and returns.

Panasonic Smartlocker is a modular designed system, offering a range of four different temperature lockers: ambient, chilled, freezer and heated. The indoor and outdoor versions are available in 6, 8, 10 or 12 door units managed by an inbuilt system using a central control screen. The system can be used as a standalone system or connected to e-commerce and order management systems via the cloud.

For users it means a fast, secure and contactless delivery solution, which enables them to collect and return goods easily, efficiently and flexibly. With 24/7 access, Panasonic Smartlocker allows customers to collect and return items at a time and location that suits them.

Temperature-controlled compartments

Thanks to Panasonic Vacuumed Insulated Panel (VIP) technology, which maintains the ideal temperature in the locker using less energy and CO2 emissions, customers can also be certain that hot, chilled or frozen foods will be kept safely in a temperature-controlled area.

For operators, Smartlocker saves time, resources and operational expense. It automates time-consuming tasks such as manually logging signatures, organising redeliveries and reporting. It also lowers delivery costs with fewer stops, logistics vehicles and routes required, while at the same time decreasing traffic congestion and carbon emissions.

Lastly, Smartlocker automation cuts the risk of human error. With GDPR-compliant monitoring capabilities and data encryption, operators can verify access to lockers, including pick-up and drop-off times.

“Panasonic Smartlockers are already a familiar site in countries across the Asia Pacific region and will be a solution welcomed by European operators and consumers alike,” said Edin Osmanovic, from Panasonic Business & Industry Solutions.

“The temperature regulated lockers and the ability to easily scale and integrate the solution with other order management and e-commerce applications, makes it the ideal system for retailers to build and then grow their delivery offering.”
