Leaders in Logistics head to London to discuss last mile strategy

Leading parcel and postal industry executives from around the world will be heading to Twickenham Stadium in London next month to discuss innovation and transformation in the last mile at the ‘Leaders in Logistics: Last Mile’ event being held on October 3.

The logistics event will bring together the UK and Europe’s last mile delivery experts to discuss everything from achieving customer excellence and streamlining operations to innovation and technology.

The programme includes more than 25 speakers from leading delivery and e-commerce firms including executives from DPD UK, Asendia, Omniva, PostNord, Royal Mail, bpost, Zedify, Aramex, what3words, Doddle and Magway.

Key topics

The Leaders in Logistics: Last Mile conference programme is split into four key areas – the future of last mile delivery, meeting the expectations of the post-pandemic consumer, optimising last mile operations, and innovation.

The future of last mile delivery session will include presentations from Elaine Kerr, CEO of DPD UK on delivering a superb consumer experience, and from Simon Batt, CEO of Asendia UK on creating a sustainable journey for 21st century consumers. Meanwhile, Doddle’s CEO Tim Robinson will talk about how logistics could be holding back the e-commerce sector.

Firms including Omniva, Estee Lauder, Royal Mail, Zonos and Stuart will also host a panel discussion exploring the challenges and opportunities of delivery in an e-commerce world.

In the second session of the day – meeting the expectations of the post-pandemic consumer – Nick Bond, Director of Parcel Lockers at bpost will explore the potential of out-of-home delivery, and what3words’ CEO Chris Sheldrick will provide insight into addressing using its geocode system.

A panel discussion looking at designing the ultimate flexible delivery experience will also be held, including speakers from Royal Mail, Scandit, PostNord, and Svensk Digital Handel.

For the optimising last mile operations session, Posten Norge’s Fredrik Lindqvist, Head of System and Network Development looks at the development of a next-generation digital supply chain, while Ivor Wheeldon, Associate Partner at consultancy CACI explores the role of location intelligence in solving last mile challenges.

This session will be followed by a fireside chat with Zedify and Parcelly on whether micro hubs are the future of last mile delivery. Gophr, Hived, SPL, Aramex and Ryde will also host a panel discussion on hyperlocal delivery.

The innovation zone

Following on from the main conference sessions the Leaders in Logistics event will host an innovation showcase highlighting several new approaches to last mile delivery. Royal Mail, for example, will present alongside UAV company Windracers, on their partnership to introduce long-range drone delivery.

Meanwhile, software firm Nylas will speak about delivering powerful communications experiences to increase carrier efficiency and customer loyalty, Austrian Post will provide insight into its in-home delivery trial, and Magway will look at its revolutionary solution to deliver goods.
