German CEP congress to focus on ‘tomorrow’s city’

The ‘city of tomorrow’, supply chain security, customer demands, market trends, companystrategies and sustainability will all be in the spotlight at next week’s German CEP congress in

Berlin.

Company executives, top officials and political representatives will be speaking at the one-dayevent on January 26, which traditionally draws top managers from across the German express, parcelsand postal industry.

The congress, which has always taken place in the Cologne/Bonn region in the past, is moving toBerlin this year to encourage greater dialogue between the industry and political decision-makers.It is organised by the DVZ newspaper in cooperation with BIEK, the association of internationalexpress companies in Germany. CEP-Research is a media partner this year.

Keynote speaker will be Matthias Wissmann, a former transport minister and now president of theGerman automotive industry (VDA). He and BIEK president Gunnar Uldall will tackle the topic of howCEP operators can continue to supply city businesses and households in view of rising customerdemand, increasing congestion, environmental issues and political regulations.

The government’s action plan for the logistics sector, its impact on express and parcelscompanies and the strategies of the market leaders will be discussed by the German state secretaryAndreas Scheuer and top executives from DHL, DPD, GO, Hermes, TNT Express and UPS. In a secondpolitical session, representatives of the main political parties will discuss how the supply chaincan be made more secure.

Other sessions will focus more intensively on the CEP market. The need of customers will bepresented by Thorsten Winkelmann, head of arvato services. Researcher Stefan Rommerskirchen willlook into freight market trends, and their impact on the CEP sector, while retail expert Kai Hudetzwill present distance-selling trends.

Corporate sustainability and the efforts of the city of Nuremberg to promote ‘intelligentdelivery’ will be the topics of two other sessions.
