Participants at this week’s G8 Summit in Italy are sending their international shipments with PosteItaliane and UPS.
The two companies, which have just renewed their strategic alliance of 2006, have beenappointed the official carriers for the inter-governmental event in the earthquake-hit town ofl’Aquila in central Italy. Mobile post offices have been set up at the G8 summit to enabledelegates and journalists to send parcels and documents to over 200 countries worldwide.
Under their alliance agreement, international parcels and documents can be handed in at the14,000 Poste Italiane post offices across Italy and are shipped through the UPS global network todestinations around the world.
“While the heads of state of eight countries have gathered to discuss the key issues of theeconomy and the environment, UPS and Poste Italiane are working to bring the countries ever closertogether,” commented Frank Sportolari, country manager for UPS Italy.
“Thanks to the integration of the IT systems and the logistics and technologicalinfrastructure of Poste Italiane, customers benefit from a high quality and affordable servicewhich allows them to know at any time what part of the world their shipment is in,” declaredMassimo Sarmi, CEO of Poste Italiane.
In addition, both Poste Italiane and UPS, through the UPS Foundation, are contributing torecovery activities following the earthquake earlier this year. A transport van worth $29,000 willbe donated to support the l’Aquila Volunteer Service Center, which works to coordinate the groupsspread around the region following the devastating quake.
