DPD Germany tests sustainable packaging

DPD Germany is currently conducting a test with reusable shipping packaging together with Munich-based start-up hey circle and German clothing manufacturer TRIGEMA.

Among other things, the practical suitability of the reusable boxes from hey circle in size XL (60 x 40 x 20 cm) will be tested under real conditions - between TRIGEMA headquarters and its test stores by DPD.

For the parcel service provider, this is already the second test run with reusable shipping packaging within a few months. In April, DPD, together with the start-up Boomerang®, had used such packaging in the systems and sorting facilities at DPD Depot 120 in Hamburg to the satisfaction of all involved.

With the start-up hey circle, the sustainably designed reusable solutions had already been successfully tested in the DPD system over several months last year. In close cooperation with hey circle and TRIGEMA, an internal test phase is now being conducted between TRIGEMA headquarters and test stores to examine the potential and costs of the logistics process. The companies involved are relying on a multi-stage test procedure: After a test phase with 100 boxes, the number could be doubled in the next step.

Michael Knaupe, Chief Customer Experience & Business Development Officer DPD Germany, said: "As an internationally active parcel and express service provider, we want to make our contribution to sustainable environmental protection. To do this, we like to break new ground with new partners."

He added:  "We were therefore delighted to be able to contribute our know-how as a long-standing logistics expert to this innovation ecosystem. Because one thing is clear: we believe in a nationwide reusable concept in e-commerce."

"Good handling of our shipping packages is a high priority for us, which is why we optimized the products for logistics right from the start. In close exchange with DPD, we receive confirmation that this is exactly what we are getting," says Doris Diebold, CEO and founder of hey circle.
