DPD Germany keeps wine safe with new packaging

DPD Germany has launched special packaging for the delivery of precious wine and champagnebottles to protect them from damage providing a high level of transport security to winemakers and

vintners.

The innovative cardboard packaging with an anti-shock function designed in cooperation with arenowned German manufacturer was examined and certified by Fraunhofer Institute, Europe’s largestapplication-oriented research organisation. The package was only considered acceptable after anextensive hardness test with falls, vibration courses, collisions, constant pressure as well asfrost, heat and humidity, the company announced. 

“The development and optimisation of the new packaging has lasted two years. The positive testresults from the Fraunhofer Institute show that the effort has paid off,” said Thomas Preuss, salesand marketing director of DPD Germany.

From now on, the new security packaging can be bought in standard package sizes for differentshapes of wine and champagne bottles with the volume of 0.75 l and one litre. DPD customers areoffered special prices by the packaging manufacturer.

With over 20 years of experience and annual shipment volumes of several hundred thousand wineparcels, DPD has become a leading specialist in wine logistics.

The DPD service range for wine customers comprises all services in this area and is planned tobe further expanded. The service ‘Pick-up by phone’ developed two years ago at the initiative ofwinemakers is now well established. With this service, customers can order by phone before midnightfor their wine bottles to be delivered the next day. For some time now, DPD has been offeringspecial rates for wine associations on a regular basis, for example for express shipments to bedelivered before 10 am, 12 pm and 18 pm the next day.

DPD Germany has an extensive nationwide network with 4,000 parcel shops, 75 depots employing7,500 staff and operating a fleet of 7,000 vehicles.
