Aramex helps in Pakistan

More than 25 tonnes of relief aid for flood-hit Pakistan has been donated in the United ArabEmirates in an Aramex-backed campaign.

UAE residents of many nationalities have donated over 25 tonnes of aid supplies and more than100 people volunteered to support the “Support Pakistan” disaster relief campaign, which wasorganised by Aramex in partnership with Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) and its subsidiaryEmirates Petroleum Products Company (EPPCO). Goods included clothes, blankets, tinned and packedfoods, kerosene stoves and lamps, torches and corrugated sheets for temporary roofing.

As part of the campaign, which was launched last month by the companies and organisations,ENOC/EPPCO provided collection points at major service stations across the UAE from August 26 toSeptember 5, 2010. Aramex is collecting the donations and extending logistics support to deliverthe aid to areas of Pakistan affected by the country’s devastating floods.

“We were all deeply moved by the generosity of the UAE community, including people of all agesand from all walks of life, who came together to support Pakistan following the country’sdevastating floods,” said Raji Hattar, Aramex Chief Sustainability Officer. “On behalf of Aramexand our partners ENOC, EPPCO, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone whocontributed to this disaster relief campaign.”

Traditionally, Aramex’s logistics network has helped people in disaster-afflicted areas aroundthe world, including in Pakistan, where the company earlier supplied aid to those affected by thecountry’s 2005 earthquake. More recently, Aramex initiated the “Deliver Hope to Gaza” reliefcampaign in 2008 and 2009.
