SEUR expands in Catalonia with new Barcelona centre

SEUR inaugurates Barcelona centre

Leading Spanish parcel carrier SEUR yesterday inaugurated a new operational centre in Barcelona to increase capacity and expand its network in Catalonia.

The new 8,700 sqm centre in El Prat de Llobregat, on the El Zal II Industrial Estate, will enable the company to expand sorting capacity and speed up deliveries in Barcelona and nearby Hospitalet de Llobregat. In particular, the branch, where up to 24 vehicles can be directly loaded and unloaded, will help to cope with higher volumes at peak times such as Black Friday and Christmas.

SEUR disclosed that it makes about 80,000 daily deliveries in the autonomous region, including 26,000 in the province of Barcelona (rising to 31,000 at peak times).

At the opening ceremony, Marta Mayordomo, deputy mayor of El Prat de Llobregat, highlighted "the importance of SEUR's commitment to the city of El Prat de Llobregat as a centre of operations in Barcelona, which helps consolidate the Baix Llobregat as one of the main logistics centres of the (Iberian) Peninsula and Southern Europe".

Yves Delmas, president of SEUR, said: "The explosion of e-commerce has meant a significant increase in our activity that we are responding to with an investment plan that includes the opening of this centre. At SEUR, we have always supported this community, which plays a fundamental role in our national strategy. Thanks to this branch we will be closer to our customers and offer a more efficient service."

Delmas also highlighted the jobs created by the new centre, where more than 280 people are already working. “We are proud to be an engine of employment in Barcelona and we hope to continue expanding this workforce in the future," he commented.

SEUR has 12 facilities in Catalonia, located in Barcelona, Granollers, Gerona, Vallés Occidental, Baix Llobregat, Lleida, Tarragona, Vilafranca and Manresa, which have so far generated more than 1,500 jobs.
