Spanish postal operator Correos has increased and renewed its vehicle fleet for another year with a purchase of 1,000 motorcycles and various other vans from different manufacturers counting 1,367 vehicles in total with an investment of over €6 million.
These acquisitions are part of the company’s measures to renew and its fleet in a homogenous way and expand it, where necessary, to reinforce its shipment distribution services made via vehicles.
Beyond the purchase of 1,000 motorcycles of the model Piaggio Liberty 125, Correos has bought 164 Renault Kangoo vans with 600 kg payload, 93 Peugeot Partner vans with 750 kg or four cubic metres, 70 vans including mixed or combi vans and 50 cargo vans by Ford Transit with 1,200 kg payload and 40 vans of 1,500 kg payload by Renault Master.
Except for the Peugeot Partner and Ford Transit vans which have been bought for the first time, the selected models had already been purchased in the past. The experience of Correos’ delivery staff with these vehicles enabled the company to ask suppliers to adapt further the performance of these vehicles to daily postal deliveries.
The new order brings greater safety and comfort, along with lower consumption and fewer emissions. This initiative adds to other measures previously implemented by the postal operator to reduce as much as possible the environmental impact of its activities.
Correos will be deploying the 1,367 vehicles from October until the end of this year. The Piaggio Liberty motorcycles will start to circulate between October and November, the Kangoo and Peugeut Partner vans from November until mid-December and the 40 Renault Master will also start operating from December onwards.
Over the coming months, Correos plans to acquire 25 more ecological vans and 100 motorcycles, as part of a bidding process.
The Correos overall fleet counts more than 12,600 vehicles of which about 9,000 are motorcycles covering over 60 million km per year and distributing around 3,600 million parcels annually.
