Swedish truck and bus maker AB Volvo has renewed its contract with TNT by another three yearsfor transport services in Europe including express delivery in the fields ‘inbound to production’
and ‘aftermarket’.Under this contract, TNT will continue to handle AB Volvo’s “Emergency Production Movements” inEurope. TNT collects automotive components and parts from more than 800 different suppliers inEurope and delivers them to AB Volvo’s production facilities in Sweden, Belgium, France and Poland.The service builds on TNT’s integrated road and air network in Europe. It combines scheduled andspecial services to ensure all production delivery needs are met.
Reliable delivery of the required components enables Volvo to maintain low inventory levels,which is essential for the automotive industry while ensuring that assembly lines run smoothly. TheAutomotive Control Centre from TNT provides door-to-door tracking of all shipments round theclock.
Also under the contract, TNT handles the distribution of spare parts to Volvo dealers throughoutEurope to support its aftermarket offering. Most parts are collected at AB Volvo’s central orsupport warehouses in Europe. TNT is also increasingly making direct deliveries from suppliers todealers. Next-day delivery before 7am is the standard for these deliveries, regardless of thedealer’s location.
TNT has been cooperating with Volvo for more than 20 years. As part of the partnership, it alsodelivers spare parts from suppliers in Europe to Volvo Trucks’ manufacturing plant in Hagerstown,Maryland, United States.
Inbound to Production and aftermarket services are so-called “Industry Service Propositions”developed by TNT under its Outlook strategy to meet the specific needs of vertical industries.These services will be made available to more customers in the automotive, high tech and industrialsectors in 2015.
