Swiss Post launches parcel delivery notification service

Swiss Post

Swiss Post has become the latest postal and parcel operator to launch a delivery notificationservice for consumers providing information about delivery times and with various options for

recipients.

The company said it has already made sending and receiving parcels considerably easier and moreconvenient over the past two years with services such as evening and Saturday delivery, My Post 24terminals and parcel collection from home.

The new “My consignments” service, launched in time for the pre-Christmas peak season, providesreal-time information on incoming parcels. The free service can be ordered via the Swiss Postportal.

When a consignment arrives at a parcel centre, customers can choose to receive either an SMS oran e-mail advising them of the delivery details. These include the planned delivery day, the sizeof the consignment and whether it will fit in the storage compartment of their mailbox, the amountof cash on delivery, where applicable, and if a signature is required for receipt.

If no-one is at home to take delivery, recipients are informed via a collection note and cannotify Swiss Post via its website or the Swiss Post App how to handle the missed parcel. Optionsinclude extending the collection period, a second delivery or forwarding it to another address. After delivery, shippers receive confirmation that their parcel has been delivered.

Besides “My consignments”, customers will also benefit from another parcel delivery innovation,Swiss Post said. Thanks to improved sorting processes at the parcel centres in Härkingen,Frauenfeld and Daillens, delivery times for parcels with forwarding orders will now be the same asfor normal parcels. Previously, redirected parcels took a day longer to be delivered.

The growth of online retail and social change mean that customers want more convenience andtransparency when receiving and sending their parcels, Swiss Post explained. “My consignments” andthe improved forwarding process form part of new services in response to these requirements. Theseinclude the My Post 24 terminals, evening and Saturday delivery, PickPost points with longeropening hours and the pick@home parcel collection service.
