DHL Express Canada invests C$3.7m in expanded operations in Montreal

DHL Express Canada has invested C$3.7 million in new facilities in Montreal in response to thegrowing demand for international shipping services in the region.

The company has moved from its depot in Dorval, next to the city’s international airport, to anew site about 10km away at Lachine to streamline its operations in the area and increasecapacity.  The new facility was officially opened on September 18.

Covering an area of 3,806 sqm, the new facilities of DHL Express in Montreal more than triplethe surface of the previous location. The significant investment was necessary to cope with thesustained growth the company has seen on the Quebec market, with an average increase of 11.4%generated over the past three years. This trend is expected to continue at least for the next fiveyears, DHL Express Canada stressed.

Thanks to the growth, DHL Express Canada was also able to increase its workforce by 8.3% duringthe last three years. The company handles 2,500 and 800 shipments daily to and from Montreal,respectively. The parcels are delivered mainly from companies in China, the UK and the UnitedStates in particular.

We are pleased to seethis strategy bearing fruit on the Montreal market,” Greg Hewitt, President, DHL Express Canada,said. “The investment we have made in this new facility allows us to respond more quickly andefficiently to the expansion of international trade, especially among small and medium-sizedenterprises”.

The construction work on the new facility started in January 2014 and ended in May this year,with 53 employees and 34 independent drivers ensuring smooth operations of all business functions.The new site will provide distribution services on the same routes that DHL Express served via itsprevious facility at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in Montreal.
