Geis starts operations of new parcel sorting system in Slovakia

The Slovakian parcel and express operator Geis Parcel SK s.r.o, a subsidiary of Germany’s GeisGroup, has started operating a new fully-automatic parcel sorting system at its central hub in

Zvolen to strengthen its business.

“For several years, we have been generating double-digit parcel volume growth in Slovakiaevery year,” Joachim Frank, Managing Director of Geis Group, said. “With the investment in the newparcel sorter, we are responding to this development preparing for future growth.”

The two-storey sorting facility has four telescope entries and 10 exits, with the handlingcapacity of the sorter reaching up to 3,000 parcels per hour. The scanners ensure reliabledetection of the parcel barcodes and the automatic navigation of the shipments in the rightdirection. The sorted parcels are moved to the 87 loading gates via the conveyor belts. Thefacility is also equipped with a video surveillance system which allows tracking each parcel duringthe sorting process in an easy way.

“In parallel, we are currently investing in the modernisation of the sorting facilities ateach of our depots,” Dušan Vilhan, Sales Manager, Geis Group Slovakia, said. “We are thus buildingthe network of Geis Parcel SK into one of the most technologically-advanced systems on theSlovakian logistics market.”
