E-commerce in Poland is set to continue growing at 20 per cent a year for the foreseeable future,creating a “huge opportunity” for the postal and parcels sector, according to Polish firm InPost.
The country’s e-commerce market grew by 23 per cent to €5.1 billion last year and annualgrowth rates of 20 per cent are likely for “years ahead”, Marcin Bosacki, InPost’s head ofinternational relations, said at the Post-Expo Operations and Technology conference in Vienna lastweek.
Poles currently spend about €60 per online purchase on average, he said. Some 12,000 e-shopsare active on the fragmented Polish e-commerce market but most are very small, and 75 per cent sellfewer than 20 items a day, he explained. Most sales are made through four large onlinemarketplaces.
Polish Post delivers the most parcels, ahead of UPS, DPD and DHL, Bosacki said. However,InPost’s parcel lockers, which now number 750 across the country, are in fifth place as a deliveryoption, he pointed out. The company offers delivery to lockers or to homes for internationalsenders to Poland.
Bosacki said the Polish company now has 1,700 parcel lockers in 14 countries through variouspartnerships and reiterated InPost’s ambitions to become the global leader for parcel lockers infuture.
