DHL inaugurates new hub in Mexico

DHL Express Mexico has inaugurated a new operational centre at Mexico City’s internationalairport as part of its $160 million investment in the country over five years.

The building was officially opened yesterday by Miguel Angel Mancera, head of the FederalDistrict government, in a ceremony attended by various Mexican officials and the German ambassadorto Mexico.

Antonio Arranz, head of DHL Express Mexico, confirmed: “The operating centre we are launching isworth $7.3 million and is part of our 2012-2017 investment plan allocating $160 million to variousdevelopment activities related to infrastructure, equipment and modernisation. This allows us tostay at the forefront in the business sector we operate in.”

The 2,000 sqm facility, located on the site of the former DHL Express road hub which moved to alarger site outside the Mexican capital a year ago, has a fully automatic sorting system withcapacity to handle 1,500 items per hour that is double the previous capacity level. In addition,the 600 sqm Monitoring Centre controls all DHL operations on a national level ensuring maximumsecurity.

The building also serves as the corporate head office and houses the company’s largest retailstore in Mexico from which 1.5 million shipments are processed every year for domestic andinternational destinations.

In addition, more than 15,000 interactions are conducted at the DHL Call Centre on a daily basiswith more than 380 staff employed in customer service. It has been awarded the Centre of ExcellenceCertification by the IMT (leader in contact centres) for the second year in a row and is one of themost advanced in the industry across Latin America.

Moreover, DHL Express offers in-house delivery as part of its service to the most importantcompanies represented in Mexico. For example, it offers delivery of credit cards from financialinstitutions, delivering more than 10,000 cards every day.
