UPS donates nearly $100m to global communities in 2012

UPS strongly supported community-based organisations around the world with nearly $100 milliondonated in total last year and also exceeded previous records for overall volunteer hours

documented by employees worldwide and the number of organisations served.

In 2012, the company gave more than $97.5 million in cumulative donations to communitiesworldwide. It also continued to be one of United Way’s largest contributors, donating more than $55million in 2012. Over the past 30 years, UPS has given more than $1 billion overall to thecharitable organisation.

In addition, UPS donated $10 million for various international grants, sponsorships andprogrammes and $9.4 million in local grants across the USA.

In terms of volunteer hours effected by UPS employees worldwide, 1.8 million were counted intotal setting a new record, with the number of non-profit organisations served globally also risingto a new record of 4,404.

“We combine our philanthropy with the volunteer spirit and skills of UPS employees worldwide tocreate a unique and powerful way to positively impact and help save lives in our globalcommunities,” Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation said. “We are proud to give to adiverse array of programmes, causes and organisations that reflect our values, strengths and theimmediate needs of our communities – and we do so in a significant way.”

As part of its social commitment, UPS supported more than 200 humanitarian relief programmes in35 countries. Through a combination of in-kind shipments, technical and expertise sharing andfunding of relief organisations, UPS contributed more than $6.5 million last year. This includesareas impacted by natural disasters such as Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Isaac as well as globalcrises in the Sudan and the Congo.

“Throughout our history, The UPS Foundation has evolved to meet the changing needs ofcommunities across the globe. We strongly encourage our employees to support causes that matter tothem and we continue to find meaningful ways to give to help build stronger and safer communities,”Martinez added.

Established in 1951, The UPS Foundation leads UPS’s corporate citizenship programmes and isresponsible for facilitating the company’s involvement with local, national and global communities.Throughout the year, The UPS Foundation invests time and financial support in community safety,diversity, environmental sustainability and volunteerism.
