German parcels delivery company Hermes has continued its network expansion with the formal openingyesterday of a new €6 million depot near Munich.
The new branch at Schweitenkirchen, about 50km north of the Bavarian metropolis, is thecompany’s 58th location in Germany and part of an overall €120 million investment in constructionof 18 new depots to expand capacity.
Hermes said it invested about €6 million in the new building, where operations started lastAugust, and has created 51 new jobs in the region. The Schweitenkirchen depot will handle about 5.5million shipments a year which will be distributed to customers throughout Upper Bavaria.
Located close to the north-south A9 motorway, the depot features two sorting systemsinstalled above each other and can process up to 25,000 shipments a day. Its delivery districtcovers from Ingolstadt to the south of Munich.
Philip Nölling, CFO of Hermes Logistics Group Germany, said at yesterday’s ceremony: “We’redelighted to open another, highly modern logistics location here at Schweitenkirchen, where we canefficiently sort record volumes and at the same time meet high technical, architectural andecological requirements.
