Leading Italian parcels delivery company BRT (Bartolini) has kicked off 2013 with the opening ofthree new depots.
The privately-held company moved its branch at Perugia in central Italy to a larger 6,000 sqmfacility on January 7. The facility’s automatic sorting system is a Posisorter system from Dutchsupplier Vanderlande that can handle up to 8,800 parcels per hour. The new branch, about 10km fromthe city centre, will serve the city of Perugia, the southern and western part of its province andpart of the eastern province of Siena.
The largest new depot is a 9,000 sqm facility at Moncalieri, on the southern outskirts ofTurin. The branch, located 2km from the Vadò motorway exit, will serve the south side of the cityas well as the province of Turin and northern Cuneo.
On January 14, the company’s branch at Arezzo, central Italy, moved to a new, more modern5,500 sqm facility equipped with an automatic parcel sorting system. The branch will serve the townof Arezzo and most of its province.
BRT has been expanding its network of parcel and freight facilities for several years. In2012, it opened several new depots, including a 9,000 sqm facility for heavy goods at Padua innorthern Italy, a 24,000 sqm facility close to Cesena, north of Rimini, and larger branches atSalerno and Castrolvillari (Calabria) .
Bartolini officially changed its name to BRT SpA in June 2011. The company has some 14,000employees, over 7,500 vehicles and more than 180 branches across Italy, and delivers about 125million parcels a year.
