DPD speeds up in Slovakia

DPD has expanded in Slovakia with the opening of a new depot east of the capital, Bratislava, toincrease capacity to cope with rising volumes.



The expansion leaves DPD with 14 branches in the Central European country where it has beenoperating since 2002. The company said its parcel volumes in Slovakia are growing annually andbranch capacity is being expanded to cope.

The new branch is at Trnava, an industrial and manufacturing city about 50km east ofBratislava, which lies close to the D1 motorway running north-east from the capital. Internationalproduction companies in the region include Samsung and Peugeot.

Construction work started on the new branch in August and DPD moved into the building inDecember. Further improvements at the depot site are planning over the next few months.

Peter Pavuk, Operations Director of DPD Slovakia, said: “The new building has betteraccessibility and has been designed to take into account everything DPD needs for parcelprocessing. It is equipped with an automatic weighing system and a security camera system whichpermanently monitors both the interior and the surroundings of the depot.”

Peter Cerven, General Director of DPD Slovakia, commented: “The capacity of the new DPDSlovakia branch in Trnava has been planned to cover the next five years. In the near future we areplanning to invest in further branches whenever increased capacity becomes necessary.”
