FedEx Express hikes Asia rates by 4pc

FedEx Express has increased its international rates in major Asia Pacific markets by 4 per centfollowing a 4.9 per cent rise by DHL Express in the region.



The increase, which went into effect on January 7, 2013, covers customers in Asia Pacificusing FedEx International Priority (IP) and FedEx International Economy (IE) services.

The rate revisions have taken effect in 13 Asia Pacific markets: Australia, China, Guam, HongKong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. ForFedEx customers in Vietnam, the new rates will be effective from January 21, 2013.

FedEx Express said that although the new rate structure provides an overall increase of about4 per cent there is a rate reduction for small shippers using IP services for lightweight shipmentsup to 45kg to destinations in Asia and Europe.

David L. Cunningham Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific, explained: “FedEx iscommitted to providing outstanding service excellence and reliability at cost-effective prices. Byrevising our rates, we are offering FedEx customers across Asia Pacific our trade mark high-qualityservice at the best possible price, allowing them to optimise their supply chains and staycompetitive in the global marketplace. Alongside ongoing service enhancements in each of our AsiaPacific markets, these rate revisions will contribute to the overall improvement of the customerexperience.”

FedEx Express already announced in September that rates for US-based customers would go upby a net average of 3.9 per cent for domestic, export and import services on January 7,2013. The company has not announced any rates changes for Europe or other world regions sofar.

Among other market leaders, DHL Express put up rates in most of Asia, Europe and other worldregions by 4.9 per cent on January 1, although its US rates rose only 3.9 per cent. UPS has so faronly announced a 4.5 per cent net increase in express prices for US-based customers.
