Belgian postal operator bpost has acquired a majority stake in the US parcel delivery companyLandmark Global to expand its network and customer base for its parcels services to and from North
America.Launched in 2005 with headquarters in California, Landmark Global operates mainly between theUSA and Canada employing 75 staff. The company runs seven hubs in the USA and two in Canada. In2012, it generated revenues worth around $50 million.
In 2010, bpost already acquired a majority stake in US postal company MSI and will place thisexisting US-based parcels business with Landmark Global.
The postal operator explained that the partnership with Landmark will further expand itsgeographical coverage over North America serving three continents (Europe, North America and Asia)while offering a wider range of international mail and parcel services. It also enables bpost tostrengthen its presence in the fast-growing US e-commerce market.
Peter Somers, member of the bpost executive committee, said: “This acquisition gives us theopportunity to further strengthen our growth abroad. bpost International has acquired a lot ofexperience and knowhow in recent years and this step enables us to offer our internationale-commerce customers even better distribution and fulfilment solutions.”
Current Landmark Global CEO Dave Mays will continue to lead the company.
