Swedish-Danish postal group PostNord has been awarded third place in the IPC’s environmentalranking for the third time in a row.
“It’s very satisfying once again to be placed in the top three in the IPC ranking. Climatework is important to us,” said Erica Kronhöffer, Director Environment & TQM at PostNord.PostNord aims to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 40 per cent between 2009 and 2020.
“We’re working systematically on a series of initiatives in the environmental sector. Theseinclude tests on and investments in electric cars and trucks powered by alternative fuels. Beingranked again as one of the best postal operators in the world in this sector is one recognition ofour efforts,” she commented.
In order to reach the goal of reducing the postal industry’s carbon dioxide emissions by 20per cent between 2008 and 2020, postal companies have to make extensive adjustments to theiroperations. To quantify the efficiency of these actions, the International Post Corporation (IPC),which established the ambitious emission reduction plan, regularly ranks postal operators’climate-related efforts.
The IPC’s ranking is based on the measures each operator undertakes to reduce its emissionsas well as on how well environmental efforts are integrated into the organisation of themanagement. Also, the postal companies’ transparency policy regarding sustainability figures, bothfor themselves and their sub-contractors, is factored into the total score.
