DHL Express USA is transporting nearly 30,000 pounds (5,900 kgs) of musical instruments thisweek ready for the New Year’s Day Parade in London, the largest worldwide, on behalf of the
American students participating in the event.In time for the event taking place on January 1, 2013, DHL is shipping more than 1,100 pieces ofequipment and instruments for 15 US high school and university marching bands to represent theirschools at the famous event in London.
The instruments include clarinets, tubas, snare drums, trumpets, saxophones, trombones andothers which DHL Express is collecting from each participating school to be loaded onto specialaircraft containers and transported to the DHL Regional Hub at the Cincinnati/Northern KentuckyAirport (CVG). From there, the instrument shipments are uplifted to the UK, where DHL Express isproviding customs brokerage services and warehousing until they are ready for retrieval by bandmembers in time for pre-parade rehearsals.

More than 500,000 people are expected to attend the event in London’s famous streets, withmillions more watching it on a live global telecast from Piccadilly to Parliament Square thatfeatures more than 6,000 performers from numerous countries.
As the exclusive transportation provider for the US marching bands, DHL Express developed afull-service shipping solution that includes customised labelling; dedicated, proactive monitoringfor each shipment; additional trucks and flight segments and synchronised special handling.
After the completion of the event, DHL will ship back all 1,100 instruments to each of theparticipating 15 schools in 13 US states.
