FedEx will increase prices for US ground deliveries by 4.9 per cent net from January, matching asimilar rise recently announced by UPS.
The Memphis-based group said FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery shipping rates will go upby a net average of 4.9 per cent effective January 7, 2013. The full average rate increase of 5.9per cent will be partially offset by adjusting the fuel price threshold at which the fuel surchargebegins, reducing the fuel surcharge by one percentage point.
Rates for FedEx SmartPost, which uses USPS as a lower-cost delivery partner, also willchange, although details were not disclosed.
FedEx already announced in September that it would increase shipping rates for FedEx Expressby a net average of 3.9 per cent for US domestic, US export and US import services also effectiveJanuary 7, 2013. FedEx Freight implemented a 6.9 per cent general rate increase on July 9,2012.
US domestic market leader UPS announced in mid-November that it will raise net prices in theUSA by between 4.5 per cent and 4.9 per cent with effect from December 31, 2012. There will be anaverage net increase of 4.5 per cent on all UPS Air (US domestic) and US-origin internationalservices, based on a 6.5 per cent average increase in the base rate, less a two percentage pointreduction to the Air and International fuel surcharge table.
UPS Ground services in the US will go up by 4.9 per cent, based on a 5.9 per cent averageincrease in the base rate, less a one percentage point reduction to the Ground fuel surchargetable. Additionally, UPS Next Day Air Freight, UPS 2nd Day Air Freight and UPS 3 Day Freight ratesfor shipments within and between the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico will increase by 4.9 per cent.
Meanwhile, DHL Express will also put up its US international prices in January, with anincrease of 3.9 per cent net for US account holders. The full 5.9 per cent average rise will bepartially offset by a two-point reduction in the Fuel Surcharge index.
