Purolator beats food collection target

Canadian delivery firm Purolator has beaten its target of helping to collect the equivalent of 1million pounds of food in its 10th season of the Purolator Tackle Hunger (PTH) programme which

helps feed nearly one million Canadians.

In 2012, Purolator teammates, partners and Canadian Football League (CFL) fans came togetherto collect over 1 million pounds of food for local food banks across Canada. This represents anincrease of over 23 per cent compared to the amount collected last season.

The goal of helping to raise the equivalent of 1 million pounds of food was set this year tocommemorate the 10th season of Purolator’s successful PTH programme. Purolator’s partnership withthe CFL was established in 2003 and has played a key role in enabling Purolator to help supportCanadian families in need.

“Our relationship with the CFL and our partners in tackling hunger has far exceeded ourexpectations. We are heartened by the relentless efforts put forth by our teammates, partners andcountless CFL fans who have given generously towards this cause. Surpassing our goal in raising 1million pounds of food is a great achievement we can all be proud of,” said Ramsey Mansour,Purolator’s Vice President of Marketing.

Since its inception, the PTH programme has raised the equivalent of 5.5 million pounds offood for local food banks across Canada. According to Food Banks Canada, almost 900,000 Canadians,38 per cent of whom are children, rely on food banks every month.

As part of the 10th season of the PTH programme, Purolator also delivered on its promise fromearlier this year to donate 10 refurbished curbsider delivery vehicles to select food banks acrossCanada. So far, nine trucks have been donated, with the 10th and final one to be donated by the endof the year.
