FedEx has launched B777 freighter flights from Taiwan to the USA and is offering faster transittimes for the island’s exporters.
The new non-stop service, with capacity for up to 81 tonnes, departs from Taipei to the FedExWorld Hub in Memphis five days a week. This is the company’s ninth B777F route connecting AsiaPacific to the U.S and Europe.
FedEx said the new flight meant Taiwanese exporters from major electronics firms to small andmedium-size firms would gain an additional two hours in cut-off times for outbound shipments fromTaiwan to US non-west coast destinations Monday to Friday.
“The deployment of this non-stop 777F service allows us to provide our customers with acutoff time extension to as late as 19:00 in major cities and industrial zones throughout Taiwan, giving customers’ additional time and flexibility when preparing their outbound shipments to theU.S.,” said David L. Cunningham, president, Asia Pacific, FedEx Express. “We make continuousefforts to strengthen our network and offer our customers in Asia Pacific competitive advantagethrough increased capacity and greater reliability.”
The deployment of the new 777F meets the growing demand for capacity between Taiwan and theU.S., and continues to demonstrate the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability byusing fuel-efficient aircraft with lower carbon emissions, FedEx added.
According to the Taiwan Ministry of Finance, the U.S. has remained one of Taiwan’s top threebusiness partners consistently for the past five years. Last year, bilateral trade between the U.S.and Taiwan reached US$67 billion with Taiwan’s year-on-year exports to the U.S. growing by 15.6 percent.
FedEx said it was the first U.S.-based, global, all-cargo freight airline to add the B777F toits fleet. Its first B777F service in Asia Pacific was introduced in Shanghai in early 2010,connecting with the FedEx Super Hub in Memphis, U.S. Later that year, other B777F routes connectingHong Kong, Osaka and Shenzhen with Memphis were launched. In July, B777F routes were launched fromShanghai and Guangzhou to the FedEx Hub in Cologne. FedEx now operates eight 777F routes connectingAsia Pacific to the U.S and Europe in addition to the new routing from Taiwan.
