FedEx this week showcased its solutions for international shipping of healthcare products,including an enhanced priority service, at a company event in New York City.
The FedEx healthcare industry summit featured presentations and discussions with companyexecutives and external experts on the changing dynamics of the healthcare industry and thesolutions it needs to grow for the future, especially for international expansion and “borderlesshealthcare”.
“As research and manufacturing increase around the world, there’s a corollary demand for globalhealthcare services and solutions. FedEx offers the connectivity the healthcare industry needs toharness the power of that growth,” Fred Smith, FedEx chairman, president and CEO, toldparticipants.
While the United States currently accounts for healthcare growth, demand from developing marketslike China and India will rise in line with their economies, making the healthcare sector’s abilityto access and connect with these markets an imperative, the company noted.

FedEx used the summit to present various product enhancements to customers. These included thenext generation of its SenseAware sensor-based technology which is now available for generaluse. Upgrades include improved GPS capabilities and cellular connectivity, as well asincreased battery life to support longer transit times. The FedEx Deep Frozen Shipping service forthe transportation of deep-frozen material eliminates the need for dry ice or expensive rentedshipping equipment.
Earlier this week FedEx already announced the international rollout of its Priority Alertservice, featuring enhanced monitoring and proactive intervention, to 70 markets around theworld.
At the summit, FedEx Chief Economist Gene Huang discussed the current economic state of theglobal healthcare market and future projections, while FedEx Express Chief Operating Officer MikeDucker shared his views on global logistics advancements and trends that make a borderlesshealthcare industry viable. Global Sales Executive Vice President Don Colleran expanded on the newFedEx solutions available to customers, while Global Marketing Senior Vice President RajSubramaniam led a panel discussion featuring FedEx leaders discussing healthcare trends occurringacross the globe.
