DPD and coffee company Nespresso have renewed their partnership with a three-year deliverycontract for Belgium and Luxembourg.
Prior to the extension, the companies had a longstanding business relation and when NespressoBelgium issued a new call for tenders in 2012, DPD again turned out to be the company’s candidateof choice in view of the strategic significance of the contract.
Under the agreement, DPD will deliver several thousands of parcels to Nespresso’s corporateclients and regular customers over the next three years, the contents ranging from machines andaccessories to capsules and chocolate that need to be delivered every day. DPD will also pick upthe empty capsules as part of the Nespresso recycling programme.
Nespresso’s primary concern in choosing its delivery partner was quality of service. “As ourlogistics partner, DPD is ‘the last mile’ in our supply chain. The drivers literally visit ourcustomers’ homes. It’s only logical to require impeccable service,” explained Jornt Depreter,Procurement Manager for Nespresso Benelux.
Another deciding factor was the partner’s response to technological developments. “We appreciateDPD for how they innovate in their market. We want to stay a step ahead of our competitors; newapplications like DPD Predict, which arranges delivery when it’s convenient for the customer, helpus achieve that goal.”
A third key aspect in the tender process was sustainability. Marc Morioux, Managing Director ofDPD BeLux, commented: “Sustainability is an important priority for DPD, a core principle that weclearly share with Nespresso. Through our Total Zero programme, we guarantee that every packagesent via our network will be completely carbon-neutral, without additional costs for the client.”With Total Zero, DPD contributes to the Nespresso Ecolaboration programme, which strives tominimise the environmental footprint of every cup of coffee.
