FedEx Express has upgraded its air capacity between Querétaro in central Mexico and its world hubat Memphis by 50 per cent to enhance its offering for local exporters.
The company has replaced a B727F, which has been operating the route five times a week sincelast year, with a B757-200 freighter. This will increase the payload capacity by 50 per cent perflight and also mean better fuel efficiency and lower aircraft noise levels.
FedEx Mexico said the switch to the larger freighter would enable the company to offer cutofftimes two hours later than previously along with better access to the company’s worldwide network.
Jorge L. Torres, recently appointed as president of FedEx México, commented: “FedEx hasdedicated itself to the task of converting itself into a true business ally for companies in theregion, offering highly competitive services at very reasonable prices.”
He added: “The decision to increase the plane’s cargo capacity responds to our strategy ofalways listening to customers and reacting promptly to their requests.”
FedEx pointed out that the growth of the surrounding ‘Bajío’ region is being driven by thecountry’s fast-growing aerospace sector, which generated exports worth US$4.3 billion in 2011 andwhich required logistics services and air transportation to connect its supply chain.
“This is the basis for the success that FedEx’s Querétaro-Memphis flight has had in order tostrengthen the logistics corridor that has formed in the Bajío zone and which caused us toimplement this upgrade,” Torres added.
FedEx said the regional expansion in central Mexico complements its distribution centres inGuadalajara and Toluca, which handle imports and exports for those areas.
