German-based overnight express operator Night Star Express saw its growth rate drop back in thefirst six months of this year but is optimistic about international growth in the coming months.
The express operator said it achieved single-digit volume growth in the first half-year butthis was lower than expectations. The key factor was that traditional overnight express volumes didnot grow as strongly as in recent years.
In 2011, the firm increased volumes of time-critical shipments by 7 per cent to 4.2 million. Its revenues are not disclosed.
“However, there are reasons for continued growth,” stressed managing director MatthiasHohmann. “The major reason can be seen in our improved international offering. Demand forcross-border logistics and reliable quality is continuing without any decline this year.”
Hohmann highlighted the acquisition of PostNord’s night express activities in the Netherlandsand Belgium by shareholder Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, which had resulted in Night Star Expressimproving its market position and generating volume growth, as well as the recent franchiseagreement with Swiss firm IN-X AG.
“With the integration of night express specialists in our network we can now offer ourcustomers cross-border individual and tailor-made concepts for reliable delivery of time-criticalgoods in line with their requirements. We can already see that our customers accept this with theincreased demand,” he declared.
Night Star Express, which is owned by seven German freight forwarders, offers overnightdeliveries across Germany as well as internationally.
