Australia Post has opened two more “postal superstores” in Adelaide and Perth as part of theongoing rollout of 30 such retail centres across the country.
Today, the company opened South Australia’s flagship postal “superstore” in Adelaidefollowing a $1 million transformation. The superstore at Rundle Mall features 12 counters tailoredto different customer requirements and a digital essentials zone in-store to allow customers toshop online via iMacs and iPads, while 24/7 parcel lockers will be installed in the next fewmonths.
The opening of the Rundle Mall superstore coincides with the transformation of two othersuperstores in Mt Gambier and Oaklands Park, representing a total investment in South Australia of$1.7 million.
Western Australia’s first 24/7 postal “superstore” opened in Perth last week (July 9). Thisfeatures seven service counters, a digital essentials zone in-store, a travel services area andparcel lockers. Superstores will also be established in Rockingham, West Perth and Cannington inother parts of Western Australia.
The iconic Brisbane GPO opened as the nation’s first superstore last November followed byfacilities in Melbourne, Cairns, several locations in New South Wales and Tasmania earlier thisyear. A total of 30 such sites are due to be operating across Australia by August this year.
The superstores are modernised post offices or new facilities that are designed to respond tothe boom in online shopping with a broader range of products and services. They have a 24/7 zonewith vending machines, parcel lockers and self-service terminals, as well as a Harvey World Travelstore and an American Express currency exchange outlet. The 24/7 zone gives customersaround-the-clock access to post and collect parcels, pay for postage, purchase stamps and packagingproducts and pay bills.
