Chronopost opens depot in south-eastern France, signs up technology provider

French express operator Chronopost has opened a new depot in Fréjus, south-eastern France, to copewith rising volumes in the region and won a new delivery contract with the global technology

distributor Ingram Micro.

The new facility in Fréjus that serves the departments of Alpes-Maritimes and Var isstrategically located in the rapidly developing Industrial Zone of Capitou. It allows Chronopost tooptimise its cargo sorting operations and its service quality related to express deliveries before8 am, 9 am and 9m winning one hour on parcel collection and delivery, the company explained.

“This time saving is especially valuable during summer, when traffic on the entire coastalarea is more complicated,” Remo Serra, managing director of the depot in Fréjus, explained. “Thelocation of the new site also allows us to optimise our network with regional hubs in Corbas,Marignane and Montpellier and Nice. Finally, reducing our mileage helps us reduce CO2 emissions,according to the measures taken by Chronopost as part of its sustainable development policy,” headded.

Built on a total area of 7,500 sqm, the new depot, in which €350,000 was invested, comprisesan operational area of 1,000 sqm and 30 sqm office space, with additional 500 sqm for futureexpansion to cope with volume peaks and growing activity in the region. Chronopost expects itsvolumes in the region to increase about 8 per cent this year. With the capacity to handle 4,500parcels daily with 35 delivery rounds, the facility is equipped with new sorting equipment and 2docks for heavy trucks and 23 gates for delivery vehicles. Some 13 staff are employed at the site.

Meanwhile, Chronopost has gained a contract with Ingram Micro France to improve themanufacturer’s logistics services by cutting delivery times and making its service more reliable inresponse to current and future customer needs.
