DPD posts double-digit Czech volume increases in 2011 thanks to B2C growth

DPD delivers in Czech Republic

DPD Czech Republic has recorded a strong double-digit increase in total shipment volumes in 2011compared to the previous year with particular growth in international volumes, mostly driven by B2C

deliveries.

In 2011, DPD CZ generated a year-on-year increase of 15 per cent in total shipping volumesand a 35 per cent growth in international shipments strengthening its position as one of the threeleading parcel operators in the country.

“Last year, we were well ahead of the market in terms of innovation. We introduced a range ofnew ideas, such as automatic reports by text message or e-mail informing consignees of expecteddelivery times. The company’s high standing on the international markets is primarily down to DPD’sstrong position throughout Europe, where we are now the clear market-leader. This means that ourcustomers in the Czech Republic benefit from the services offered by probably Europe’s bestroad-based parcel carrier,” Daniel Mareš, Managing Director at DPD CZ, said.

He added that one of the decisive factors contributing to the good results, for internationalshipments in particular, were the various internal changes implemented in the management ofshipments to neighbouring countries, in particular to Slovakia.

The company said the ongoing stagnation in the B2B market also negatively impacted theoverall trading figures of DPD in Czech Republic. The IS&T sector in particular, which includesdistribution of IT equipment, accessories and related consumables, was affected in the long-term.This is reflected in the declining number of shipments from certain customers working in this areaof business.

“The stagnation or slight fall in domestic demand for goods has also had a negative impacton the quantity of goods shipped and therefore the parcel delivery market,” DPD CZ concluded.
