UPS has officially opened a new facility in Dieppe, Greater Moncton, located in New Brunswick,one of Canada’s three Maritime provinces, as part of the company’s multi-million dollar investment
in Atlantic Canada.Under the expansion strategy, approximately 250 new jobs are expected to be created in theregion, 100 of which are within Greater Moncton.
UPS started pick-up and delivery services for its customers in Greater Moncton at the end ofApril this year, especially targeting businesses and corporate customers in Moncton. “We have beenin Greater Moncton for more than 18 years; expanding our brand presence and global network to thebusiness community was a natural step for UPS,” said Shelley Gares, Director of Operations,Atlantic Canada.
UPS started its operations in the province in 1994, with its customer contact centre, accountingand brokerage functions. In Moncton alone, it employs over 400 staff. The UPS Store network alsooperates 19 franchised locations in Atlantic Canada.
Six additional cities in the Atlantic provinces will be added to the network later in the year.The most recent facility was opened in Halifax, Nova Scotia, last month. The expansion builds onthe commitment UPS has shown to the Canadian market particularly in recent years with investmentsin Vancouver, Burlington, Toronto and Calgary. Since 2005, the company has invested more than $215million in its Canada network.
UPS said road safety was a top priority for the company, with all UPS drivers going throughcomprehensive training programmes that not only fulfill the legal requirements, but help them inmany areas through accident-prevention strategies developed in-house.
UPS began the expansion of its global network into Canada in 1975. Over the past 36 years, thatnetwork has grown to include a delivery fleet of 2,500 vehicles, almost 10,000 employees and morethan 85 daily airline flight segments. Another 1,900 employees provide logistics and distribution,freight forwarding and customs brokerage services to Canadian customers.
