German letter prices are inexpensive compared to 28 other European countries, according to a newsurvey, Deutsche Post claimed today.
Deutsche Post customers still enjoy inexpensive prices for standard letters compared to theirEuropean neighbors, the 11th annual European letter price survey showed. The nominal price of 55Euro cents is below the European average. If macroeconomic factors such as labour costs andpurchasing power are also taken into account, the postage rate for a domestic letter in Germanyactually rises to seventh place in the affordability rankings, the German postal operator said.
The last price increase for standard letters was 15 years ago while adjusted for inflationthere has been a 17 per cent price drop in the last decade, Deutsche Post added. The only countrieswith higher real price falls were Italy and Cyprus. Across all 29 countries surveyed the price fora normal standard letter actually increased by an average of 31 per cent during the same period.
Deutsche Post added that the €0.75 price for sending a letter from Germany to other Europeancountries (the Europabrief) ranks well below the European average of €0.91.
