FedEx Express has opened a new eco depot in Montpellier, southern France, its ninth new facilityin the country since October last year.
The 4,000 sqm depot is equipped with solar panels with the aim to reduce its annual carbonfootprint by over 40 tonnes. The 1,600 sqm of solar panels produce about 92,000 kWh of electricityper year. Thanks to the solar energy production and central conveyor belt using 16 times lesselectricity than the 3-phase standard conveyor belt 380V, FedEx plans to reduce the depot’s carbonemissions by 41.4 tonnes per year.
The agency is connected via road and air networks to FedEx European hub at Roissy-Charles deGaulle Airport in Paris. The depot has a fleet of 13 vehicles and 16 employees.
