Australia Post Digital MailBox

Australia Post has launched a new, free Digital MailBox for all Australian citizens and is aboutto open 30 superstores across the country adapting to the increasing digitalisation in the country

and worldwide.

“The Australia Post Digital MailBox will allow businesses, government entities and customers tocommunicate through a secure online portal that can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, wherever they are,” Australia Post Chairman, David Mortimer, said.

“Just as the traditional letterbox has been a vital part of people’s communications for the past200 years, we think a personal digital mailbox for every Australian is the perfect complement tothe letterbox in this online revolution,” he explained.

Australia Post said the 30 superstores are a direct response to the ten million Australians nowshopping online. E-commerce also boosted last year’s Christmas volumes in the country withAustralia Post delivering additional three million parcels during the festive period.

The new superstores will have a 24/7 zone with vending machines, parcel lockers and self-serviceterminals, as well as a Harvey World Travel store, an American Express currency exchange outlet anda concierge to help customers. The 24/7 zone will give customers around-the-clock access to postand collect parcels, pay for postage, purchase stamps and packaging products and pay bills.

Australia Post Managing Director and CEO, Ahmed Fahour, commented: “With our parcel volumesgrowing a staggering 13% since July last year due to online shopping, our superstores are wherepeople’s physical lives will connect with their digital lives,”

“With online shopping booming, Australians have told us they want to be able to collect theirparcels at a time and place that suits them. Following successful parcel locker trials inMelbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, we are now extending parcel lockers to a total of 10 sites, withplans for a national rollout to further expand this service,” he added.

Bridging the gap between physical and online shopping, the superstore will have Apple Macs,iPads and digital screens allowing customers to shop or research online, arrange their parceldelivery electronically and navigate key products and services.

To help small to medium businesses take advantage of the online shopping boom, Australia Postplans to open a further 16 dedicated business hubs around Australia by the end of June, in additionto the seven already operating.
