FedEx Express improves air connections between Asia and Middle East

FedEx Express has launched a new air connection from Asia to major Middle East marketssignificantly improving delivery service to meet increasing business demand.

As part of the expanded network coverage, the new route Guangzhou-Mumbai-Dubai-Delhi-Guangzhouoperates five times a week improving connectivity from major Asia Pacific markets to the MiddleEast countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman,Pakistan and Qatar. It follows the launch of the first FedEx direct service between India and theFedEx Asia Pacific hub in Guangzhou, southern China, in January 2011.

Through the new connection, FedEx customers shipping from Asia to the Middle East and vice versacan now profit from transit time improvements of up to two days for FedEx International Priorityand FedEx International Economy shipments.

“This latest route further enhances the operational strength of the FedEx international networkby providing greater access to two of the fastest-moving markets in the world and supporting theireconomic development,” said David Cunningham, Jr., president, Asia Pacific, FedEx Express. “We arehighly attuned to the increasing needs of our customers and respond with new services which keepthem at the forefront of their industries in this demanding world.”

Asia and the Middle East have already recorded strong economic performances in 2011 with GDPgrowth projected for the full year at 7.5% and 4.0% respectively, according to the AsianDevelopment Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Both regions’ economies are expected tosignificantly outpace the world’s average growth rate, expanding at a rate of 4.7% (Asia Pacific)and 4.1% (Middle East) per year for the next 20 years, according to the Boeing World Air CargoForecast. The total value of merchandise trade between Asia and the Middle East was US$668 billionin 2010 and this figure is expected to grow.

Since June last year, FedEx has launched various service enhancements to further improve itsproducts and services for customers in the growing Asia Pacific region. These include theintroduction of the Extra Large Pak (XL Pak) for larger shipments; expansion of FedEx InternationalEconomy and FedEx International Economy Freight services with more routes inside Asia Pacific andbeyond. The company also deployed a new A300-600 aircraft on the existing route between Incheon,South Korea into the FedEx Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou, China providing additional capacity toEurope and Asia.
