DHL ensures “green deliveries” during Danish EU presidency

DHL goes green

DHL has been selected as the official logistics partner for the Danish EU presidency during thefirst half of 2012 providing CO2-neutral delivery both by road and by air as part of the Danish

Foreign Ministry’s initiative “Sustainable Products and CleanTech solutions”.

Under the partnership, all Danish ministries will use DHL’s carbon-neutral GoGreen products andservices to reduce the direct environmental impact of the meeting activities and to set a signalfor social and economic responsibility.

In 2009, DHL Express already took over the transportation for the Danish Government during theUnited Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (COP 15). This time, the cooperation hasbeen further expanded with the company’s express and freight units. DHL Freight will take over thecomplete road transportation while DHL Express will offer global courier service using the GoGreendelivery options.

DHL’s GoGreen services are part of the Danish Presidency’s sustainability initiative accordingto the environmental ISO20121 standard. It is expected to be the first presidency that will becertified as sustainable. With the carbon-neutral GoGreen services, DHL will neutralise all CO2emissions from the shipments and transports by purchasing carbon credits frominternationally-recognised climate protection projects.

Deutsche Post DHL is committed to minimising the impact of its business on the environmentsetting itself the target to improve the carbon efficiency of its own activities and those of itssubcontractors by 30% by 2020. It has already reached its interim target to improve its CO2efficiency by 10% which was initially set to be reached by 2012.
