Alexander Kiselyov

Russian Post CEO Alexander Kiselyov has announced plans to raise wages of postal workers by

up to 12% for 2011 as he thinks insufficient salary is one of the main problems of the company withits over 400,000 employees.

At a meeting of Russia’s National Postal Union, Kiselyov stressed that the company is constantlylooking for ways to improve the situation but it is difficult due to low productivity. Therefore, one of Russian Post’s priorities is to create conditions for increasing the income of theiremployees.

A significant step forward in this direction will be the introduction of piecework and bonus paysystems. These systems are expected to provide the necessary motivation and increase the materialinterest of the staff in achieving the highest production results and maintaining quality servicesat a high level even during periods of increased pressure, Russian Post stated.

“In 2010, changes in the remuneration system, optimisation of the staff number, as well asadministrative and managerial measures aimed at stimulating Russian Post branches to fulfill therequired tasks made it possible to increase the average salary of the workers,” Kiselyov continued.“During the first nine months of 2010, this salary amounted to RUB 11,773 (€281.2) which equals a7% increase over the same period in 2009.”

For 2011, Russian Post aims to achieve even a higher pay rise of 12% through optimising itsnetwork, introducing a piecework pay system and provision fees for services and bonuses as well asincreased bonus payments.

The further implementation of the Collective Agreement for 2010-12 concluded in 2009 between theRussian postal operator and the National Postal Union will contribute to improving the prosperitylevel and social protection of postal workers, Kiselyov added. According to this labour agreement, the range of privileges, guarantees and compensations for employees has been substantially expandedcompared to what is stipulated under the Labour Code of the Russian Federation.

In the first half of 2010, social payments to Russian Post employees amounted to more than RUB372,000 (€8,885), up 50% compared to the first half year of 2009. The company also providesadditional social guarantees for its workers besides those included in the CollectiveAgreement.
