DHL Parcel Germany launches own online shopping portal

Mein Paket.de online shopping portal

DHL Parcel Germany has launched a new online shopping portal called ‘My Parcel’ (MeinPaket.de inGerman) targeting mainly small and medium-sized retailers and offering them an additional channel

to place their products in the internet in order to boost sales.

As the first parcel operator in Germany to launch its own shopping portal, DHL said it is addinga completely new business area to its existing range of parcel services. But the company stressedthat it does not aim to compete with the likes of Amazon or eBay and will continue its closestrategic partnership with those two companies in future.

“For retailers and manufacturers to be consistently successful on the market, there is no wayaround internet trade,” emphasised Ingo Bohlken, CEO DHL Parcel Germany. “With MeinPaket.de, weoffer even more reach to our business customers as well as our 1.5 million Packstation customerswho can access 17,000 retail outlets and sales points across Germany. At the same time, we therebyconsistently pursue our corporate strategy to support our customers in the best possible way.”

The online portal MeinPaket.de links product and service offerings of approximately 600retailers from various business areas including technology, living, fashion, hobbies and lifestyle. After registering at the website, users can access the shopping portal through a single loginmanaged by DHL. This is the only place where a shopper’s data are stored, which meets increasingsecurity needs of online shoppers. To increase security even further, the online platform offers acentrally managed checkout module that enables customers to pay all their purchases in one goeither by credit card, via debit note or cash on delivery. The advantage of this is that personaldata is protected and the complete process is integrated in the MeinPaket account. In addition todata security, DHL thus also simplifies the purchasing process.

“For consumers, the sheer number of online shops causes more and more confusion, and they oftenfeel insecure about the trustworthiness of vendors. Therefore, we now offer a safe solution thatmakes buying in various shops possible with only one registration,” Bohlken explained. This impliesthat online shoppers can also use the whole range of functions including track and trace via mouseclick, the delivery of shipments to one of the 2,500 Packstations, convenient online returnssolutions, etc.

Online retailers can easily place and sell their goods at fair conditions. DHL Parcel offerspartners signing up for the portal a comprehensive service – ranging from the complete managementand billing to an insurance against payment shortfalls.

Access to the MeinPaket.de platform is available to both full-range and niche suppliers inGermany. As widely practised at other platforms as well, DHL charges the retailer a transaction feethat is very transparent and moderate with 4-8% of the selling price and a one-time fee of €20 forthe registration of the shop at the portal.
