TNT Express expands network in emerging markets

TNT Express has continued its expansion in emerging markets around the world with the opening ofnew facilities in Eastern Europe and South America.



In Poland, the company has opened a 3,000 sqm road transport hub in the industrial city ofKatowice to handle domestic and international shipments. The new centre is equipped with advancedtechnology, including sorting lines and a monitoring system, TNT Express Poland said in astatement. It is complemented by the existing TNT branch at Katowice airport.

“In the last three years, the Katowice branch has nearly tripled the number of shipmentstransported,” said Renata Pielorz, head of southern Poland at TNT Express. The new hub would enablethe company to offer improved services to customers in the region and would increase itsoperational capacity. The Katowice road hub is strategically located on the main route throughsouthern Poland from Wroclaw to Cracow, and on north-south routes between Warsaw and the easternCzech Republic and onwards to Austria.

TNT Express Poland has also opened an office in the southern town of Nowy Sacz, its 27thlocation in the country, in response to the region’s economic growth. TNT is offering a range ofdomestic and international document, parcel and freight transportation services through the newlocation.

In Russia, TNT has opened its second office in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don in responseto rising demand in the city and the surrounding region, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported. Keyclients in the city include IKEA, Puma and Adidas. TNT already has an office in Krasnodar and plansanother office in one of the larger southern cities, the newspaper wrote.

In South America, Brazilian subsidiary TNT Mercúrio has extended its network with two newdepots. It has opened a major facility in Rio de Janeiro, including a 11,000 sqm sorting centrewith 120 trucking docking points, to expand its capacity in the metropolis and surrounding region.

The company has also opened an ‘ecologically-correct’ terminal at Santa Cruz do Sul insouthern Brazil. This 22,500 sqm facility lies alongside a 20,500 sqm area of protected nature. TNTMercúrio is using the new facility to serve 24 districts, and has created 30 new jobs at the site.

“This terminal is strategic because it will allow us to get closer to companies in sectorsimportant to us,” said company president Roberto Rodrigues.  Environmentally-friendly measuresinclude rainwater collection and usage, solar-powered heating and refuse recycling as well aspreservation of native trees and the planting of 170 new trees.
