DHL opens largest logistics facility in Middle East

Danzas AEI Emirates, part of DHL, has opened a near-€40 million multi-purpose logistics hub inDubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) to offer integrated solutions, including express, and to expand

its presence in the Middle East.

DHL has invested €39 million (AED 185 million) in the new facility which is the largest ofits kind in the Middle East with a total area of 80,000 sqm (equalling 11 football pitches). Itoffers the perfect platform for companies to profitably leverage their supply chains using the newhub as a global gateway.

With a built-up area of 54,000 sqm, the fully air-conditioned facility includes 6,700 sqm ofoffice space and an 8,000 sqm temperature-controlled, life sciences distribution centre. Equippedwith world-class security infrastructure in line with TAPA guidelines, the centre uses advanced,scalable technology platforms and strategic warehouse management solutions combined with anenvironmentally friendly green data centre. This latest technology enables DHL to provide reliable,flexible and fast transport services to customers boosting cost efficiency.

“An increasing number of companies from diverse industries including Life Sciences,Automotive and Technology have chosen Dubai as an attractive production and logistics location”,said Hermann Ude, CEO DHL Global Forwarding, Freight. “The Gulf is ideally positioned, with accessnot just to Europe, Africa and Asia, but also to the fast developing Indian subcontinent and itshuge manufacturing output.

“Our global experience of aligning logistics services with trade lanes will be furtherenhanced by the integrated, innovative services provided at the new Jafza facility. This iscombined with the future benefits of operating from the only free zone in the world to be locatedbetween an airport and a seaport,” he added.

With the global freight market set to reach $1.4 trillion by 2020, and the Gulf imports andexports reaching $320 billion at the end of 2007, the new facility is an essential addition to theDanzas service portfolio, according to Enver Moretti, CEO and President, EMA Region, DHL GlobalForwarding.

Our new facility offers a “cold-chain” logistics operationdedicated to serving the unique supply chain needs of the pharmaceutical industry; providingadditional services, such as Good Manufacturing Practice labelling and kitting, to better serve thegrowing healthcare market,” Moretti further explained.
